How do I book a hotel?

You search hotels for your dates, choose a room and a rate, give the guest's details and pay. Each rate shows its cancellation terms and what is paid at the hotel before you book.

01Steps

1. 1Open Travel in the top menu and select Hotels.
2. 2Enter the Destination: a city, hotel or region.
3. 3Choose the Check-in and check-out dates. Check-in must be at least tomorrow.
4. 4Set Guests and rooms: adults, children with their ages, and the number of rooms.
5. 5Search, then narrow the results with Filters, such as price, Free cancellation, Payment (Pay now or Pay at hotel), Star rating, Guest rating, Board type and Amenities.
6. 6Open a hotel and go to Rooms and rates.
7. 7Compare the rates of the room you want. Each rate shows:its cancellation terms: Non-refundable, or Free cancellation before a date with the amount you get backPay now or Pay at hotelthe board, such as room only or breakfast includedthe tax included, and any amount to pay at the hotel
8. 8Select Book on the rate. Under Complete booking, enter the guest's first name, last name, email and phone. Tick I'm booking for someone else if the guest is not you.
9. 9Add any Special requests (optional), then select Add to cart and pay.

02What to expect

• Hotel prices are held for 30 minutes. The hotel page shows Rates held for with a countdown, and the booking step tells you how long your price is held. Complete your payment before the time runs out.
• After payment the order page says it is confirming your reservation with the hotel, then shows your Confirmation ID. Confirmation typically takes minutes, but our Terms of Service allow up to 48 hours for certain properties. See Where is my hotel confirmation and how does check-in work?.
