You redeem a Google Play gift card in the Google Play app under Payments & subscriptions, or in a browser at play.google.com/redeem. Google is strict about place: it says Play gift cards may only be redeemed and used in the country and currency they were made for, and that you must be in that country when you redeem. Match the card to the country of your Google Play account, and redeem it while you are there.
How to redeem a Google Play gift card on Android
- Copy the code from your order page with Copy. Google asks for the code without spaces or dashes.
- On your Android device, open the Google Play app.
- At the top right, tap your profile picture.
- Tap Payments & subscriptions, then Redeem code.
- Enter the code and tap Redeem.
- Review the account that will receive the balance, then tap Confirm.
Redeem on a computer
In a browser
Google's steps for a computer are short: go to play.google.com/redeem, enter your code, click Redeem, review the account that will receive the balance and click Confirm.
Which region to buy
Is a Google Play gift card region locked?
Yes, and Google says so in plain terms on three help pages:
- Play gift cards may only be redeemed and used in the country and currency in which they were purchased.
- The country or region listed in your Google Play account must match the country or region where the gift card is offered.
- Cards are geo-restricted: to redeem one, you must be present in that country. If you are travelling, Google tells you to redeem after you return.
So there are three things to line up: the card's country, your Play country, and where you are standing when you redeem. This is the strictest form of region lock among the big gift cards.
Google Play gift card region change
People often ask whether they can change their Play country to fit a card. Google's page on changing the Play country sets firm limits:
- You must wait at least 90 days after setting your country before you can change it, and 90 days between later changes.
- To set up a new country you must be in that location and have a payment method from it.
- Members of a Google Family group can't change their Play country.
- Your Play balance is linked to the country it was redeemed in. After a change, the old balance can't be used in the new country; it becomes usable again only if you switch back.

From the KryptoMate catalogue on 11 Oct 2026. Each card's page has its "Redeemable in" line and its Terms. The catalogue has 50 more Google Play cards: see the Google Play page.
Open the card for your Play country, for example Google Play USA, Google Play UK or Google Play India. Check the Redeemable in line and read the Terms tab. Where a card is named after a wider area and not one country, its Terms tab is the place to confirm that your country is covered. We can't exchange a card for another country.
If the code doesn't work
The messages Google lists
- "Couldn't redeem this code. This code can only be used in [country/region]." Google says you must be present in the card's country and the card's currency must match your payments profile. If you are sure you are in the right country, Google's help page offers a form.
- "There is a problem with that code." Check the code, with no spaces or dashes. Google adds that a card may not have been activated by the seller.
- Code already redeemed. The credit should be in your Play balance. Make sure you are signed in to the account that redeemed it.
- "We need more information to redeem your gift card." Google asks for details through its own form, linked in the message.
What to do on our side
Press Copy on your order page and paste the code, so nothing is mistyped. If the message is about country, compare your Play country and your location with the card; that check is Google's, and we can't switch it off.
When the countries match and Google still refuses the code, contact our support with your order number, a screenshot of Google's message and, if you used Google's form, its reply. Leave the code itself out of the chat. An invalid or undelivered code is reviewed under the Refund Policy if you report it within 48 hours of delivery. A card you selected for the wrong country is not refundable, and a redeemed code is final. More checks are in Why can I not use my gift card in my country?.
Bought it with crypto?
Google does not care how the card was paid for; only its country counts. To order one, see How to buy a Google Play gift card with crypto, and for the payment, How to pay On-Chain.
